Countach!
I found out last week that this basically means ‘Holy Cow’ which has somehow become a phrase I say often. I learned this of all places in Monaco which is where I spent the 4th of July holiday. My friend is a race car driver, so of course the perfect place to get married has to be Monte Carlo. It was a heck of a trip from California, almost 13 hours, but I go a long way for customers and even farther for my friends. And this particular friend is both. He uses an early version of our CCM application ( http://www.mactank.com/ccm/index.html ) as a communication tool to unite three different buildings his company owns for their construction business.
I was sitting at the table in an Italian restaurant, took a bite of my gnocchi, and it was so good I belted out Holy Cow! From the other end of the table I heard somebody shout ‘Countach!’ Now Monte Carlo is very close to Italy, in fact some of the group went to Italy for lunch just so they could say that to people when they got home, but I digress. Anyway there were some native speakers in the group who said that was how the Lamborghini got it’s name. It fits because their marque is the bull.
Well, being me I looked it up. Here is what Wiki has to say: The word Countach (pronounced Koon-tahj) is a exclamation of astonishment in the local Piedmontese dialect - generally used by men on seeing an extremely beautiful woman [1]… The name stuck when Nuccio Bertone, first saw “Project 112” in his studio.
Can’t you just see it happening? You’re Nuccio, and you think it is just gonna be another day down at the Lamborghini factory until you walk in and there she is … ‘Holy cow!’
It happened to me. I had no idea that I was shouting Countach! when I first saw the details of our new web hosting service, MacTank.net ( http://www.mactank.net ) but I sure felt the same way Bertone did when he gazed upon the Lambo for the first time. The beauty of the concept brought to life through hard work and advanced technology.
